Nipple Covers vs Concealing Bralettes
Which is better for nipple concealing? Depends on who you ask.
This may come as a surprise to you, but nipple covers still have a place in my lingerie drawer. These little gems are self-adhesive and virtually invisible under clothing. I stick them on to prevent nipples from showing in a bathing suit* or strapless dress. I also wear them under a silk halter blouse. Since it’s designed to accentuate the shoulders and clavicle area, I don’t want my bra strap, not even the delicate strap of The Elli Bralette, to interrupt the aesthetic.
Speaking of The Elli, it’s partly my long standing relationship with silicone nipple covers that inspired me to design a concealing bralette in the first place. For years beforehand, prevention of nipple show was my main goal when choosing an outfit to wear. And I tried all the tricks to keep them hidden: tissue paper, bandaids, medical tape, adhesive breast petals, stick-on bras, you name it. When I discovered the magic of silicone nipple covers, they became my concealer of choice. Since I preferred to wear a bralette (which, before the advent of the Elli Bralette, was useless in the nipple concealing department), I would stick on these silicone covers and wear them underneath them. Problem solved, seemingly…
Silicone covers involve an extra step.
Here’s the thing…deep down, even with this novel, nip-covering discovery, I knew my nipple-concealing game was not 100% on lock. Full disclosure: aside from my obsession with hiding my nips from showing, I'm pretty low maintenance. I prefer not to spend time getting ready (I don't even own a hairbrush) and live in t-shirts, pull-on shorts or leggings, and slip-on shoes. I just can't be bothered by a zipper. Or shoe laces for that matter.
Since, there's always room for improvement for making my routine even more efficient (and easy), I zeroed in on the silicone concealers. Wearing them under a bralette, not to mention hand washing and drying them each day, involved an extra step.
I wanted to simplify further.
How the concealing bralette came to be...
I thought to myself, 'If only there were a bralette with a nipple concealer inside. THAT would solve everything.' Not just any concealer: one that’s thin, flexible, discreet, and strong enough to prevent my wily, mind-of-their-own, nipples from poking through my shirt. Moreover, if I'm envisioning the ultimate bra here, the concealer must be permanent, as in non-removable, so it doesn't shift, bunch up, or get lost in the wash. Plus, digging around for a missing nipple concealer is, you know, extra.
So, as you may have guessed, this 'all-in-one, nipple-concealing bralette' did not exist, and if I wanted to simplify my life in this way, I was gonna have to make it myself.
So I did.
The Elli Bralette, the nipple-concealing bra of my dreams, is everything I wanted it to be. It’s my one-step, throw-on-and-go, time-saving nipple-concealing solution. It simplifies my life, and on the rare occasion it doesn't work with my outfit, I switch it out for an old standby, my silicone nipple cover friends.
Both do the trick.
All is well. My 'getting ready' routine has tightened up, and my nipple-concealing game is definitely on lock. I’ve got the best tools in the shed; I only need a concealing bralette and silicone nipple covers. Both have a place and function in my nip-hiding endeavors, and both do the trick in their own right.
